The Southeast Women's (SEW) Cycling Series is a grass-roots effort by women, for women to encourage participation in women's racing at all levels. The ultimate goal is to grow the sport of women's cycling by providing an enviroment that is both challenging and fun.
SEW is not affiliated with any promotor, event, or racing series. The SEW calendar was developed by working with promoters of existing races to further the level of sponsorship and promotion of women's fields at those races. As a result, SEW can show promoters that women's racing IS strong and competetive in the Southeast, and that women deserve a place at each and every race.
SEW Cycling Series Goals:
- Growing Women's Cycling. Give women a goal of racing multiple events and earning points and prizes. A cohesive and consistent series of races held across the Southeast will open up new opportunities for women to compete and grow in the sport.
- Reducing Barriers of Entry to Beginner Women by providing a separate Category 3/4 race so that beginner women can enter the world of racing and have the opportunity to learn race tactics and bike handling in a more comfortable environment.
- Providing Quality Racing for Advanced Women by providing separate Category 1/2/3 race so that more advanced women can race in a competitive environment with other racers who understand tactics and handling and are prepared to compete at a higher level.
- Creating a Sustainable Series Where Women's Racing Is Profitable. The goal is to establish a series that can run for years to come, guaranteeing the presence of women's racing with fields large enough to be profitable for race promoters and sponsors.
A big thanks to Lee Farabaugh and the girls affiliated with SEW for taking the initiative to "take the bull by the horns" and organize this series!
